Hubsan X4 H501S, the GPS enabled Follow me quadcopter gets an upgrade, its now sold as Advanced Version with a more efficient 5.8 ghz FPV1 transmitter. Initially Hubsan H501s Was released with the standard integrated FPV transmitter (Hubsan Trademark Design), check my detailed write up here
The Husban H501S Advanced version also referred as professional variant is a great upgrade from the previous standard version's controller. This new sleek controller feels big and natural in hands and has a dedicated 5.8 ghz FPV antenna for the video signal. If you were to choose between the standard version and the advanced version, I would recommend to spend few more bucks to get this transmitter. In-addition you can use 12V 3S rechargeable lipo battery with a JST connector to power the transmitter besides the 8 AA cells.

Pricing, Feel the Difference With $70 more
The $70 price different makes the H501S more professional, the Advanced version is priced at $290 available in both Black and Gold white, while the standard version is selling at $230. My Pick would be the advanced version.
Purchase Options
You are teasing me now, lovin' the Advanced (60$ difference?)
ReplyDeleteWhen we talk about mini quadcopter so,Hubsan X4 is the best quadcopter with great features. It is just 30 mm in height and 65 mm in width.
ReplyDeleteJohn Mar, you are right!
DeleteAnyone know where I can get the 5.8ghz antenna with the hinged part cant fine it...
DeleteCould you tell me the exact specification of the Advanced Transmitter Battery?
ReplyDeleteH501s Advanced transmitter operates with 4 x 1.5V AA batteries
DeleteWhat Lipo options can be used? 7.4? 11.1? Does the manual say what voltage range? Thank you.
Deleterunning mine with a 3S 11.1V w/ JST connector. So far, so good. Manual does say not to exceed 2S though...
DeleteI am running mine with a 3S 11.1 w/ JST connector. So far it's worked well. The manual does say that you should use 2S LiPo though.
DeleteThe advanced transmitter operates with 8*1.5V batteries, thus ±12V.
DeleteA 3S LiPo 11.1V(nominal),12.6V(charged) works fine (JST/BEC connector).
It seems to be a fault in the manual.
You can also use 8* NiMH batteries(±2500mAh), they also run a long time.
Ans Pri,
ReplyDeleteThat is incorrect, the H501s ADVANCED TRANSMITTER operates with (8) x 1.5V AA batteries.

This is what I ordered from ebay, (though still waiting for item to come)

Apparently you can also use a 2s 7.4v lipo as well, so I guess it must have some king of voltage regulator!
3S 11.1V 2500mAh lipo with a JST connector works. You may have to solder on a JST connector (easy, but do it safely). The JST connector from the AA battery holder works perfectly on a lipo.
ReplyDeleteHere is one that I purchased from AliExpress:
ReplyDeleteRC Lipo 3S 11.1 V 2200 mAh 8C 3 Thick Thin Sizes lipo battery 11.1v
Does that battery work?

ReplyDeleteDid that battery work? Does it have the jft connector?
DeleteIs it difficult to fly FPV on such a small screen? It appears that the professional screen is half inch or more smaller than standard.
ReplyDeleteWait, WHAT? Small is Shark giggle screens, this is great!! Fun quad..
DeleteWhat lipo do you recommend for advanced remote control. Voltage 2s or 3s.
ReplyDeleteIm trying to order this and the only option it gives is.for a eu plug. Im needing a us plug. Even when i click the us warehous it wont let me choose us plug. This thing wont do any good with the wrong kind of plug. Does anyone know where to maybe get a us plug for this?
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know how i would get a us plug? The only option it gives is a eu plug even if i choose the us warehouse
ReplyDeleteThx for the info folks. I've been researching the advanced controller, and there isn't much info out there that deals with the actual brands and sizes that would fit the controller. I am surprised that Hubsan is still using the cheap JST type connectors though.
ReplyDeleteIf anyone else has a different brand of lipo that fits well, please post them.
I have a followup also.
ReplyDeleteI have a brand new GENS ace 2200mah 3s 11.1v 25C battery sitting here that I would like to try in the advanced controller, but need to change the plug from Deans to JST.
Is this feasible or not?
Does anyone here on this page know where a case for the hubsan x4 H501s to include the advanced controller? Please advise if anyone has a Web site to go to or just some insight as to how to proceed?
ReplyDeleteGuys! pls comment for maximum distance of advance version.. thanks
