Xiaomi Yi Camera can capture video at 2K resolution. Indeed, 2K recording capability for Xiaomi Yi has been in the news for a while, its now official with the release of new firmware version 1.2.12.  V1.2.12 upgrade is available over the air (OTA) through the Android or iOS App, manual firmware download is yet to be available on the official page here

For the folks who are wondering what is 2K resolution, simply its next best of the Full HD 1920*1080. Evidently after the firmware update, Yi camera can capture video at 2304*1296 at 30 FPS (Frames per second). The 2K resolution is  available in the  Xiaomi Yi camera App settings window. Xiaomi Today released Firmware Upgrade Version 1.2.0, available (OTA) Over the Air, through Phone from Xiaomi Yi Camera APP. This version now supports video time lapse and can captures images at 16:9 resolution at 12 MegaPixels. The 1.2.0 firmware Update process is even more simplified , connect your phone to the internet, check for the newest firmware upgrade, disconnect the phone from internet, connect the camera to the Xiaomi APP through WIFI and the update would start automatically. Note that 1.2.10 firmware version is release, see blow for more information.

Xiaomi Released the Latest Firmware Version 1.1.0 for the newly launched Yi Sports Action Camera. Xiaomi Yi Camera launch, coincided my thought of buying first Sports action Camera to test with Syma X8C Quadcopter. Excited about this camera, Ordered one from banggood, started to Google the  first looks, here is what i came through, a quick review of Yi.

As evident by now, Xiaomi Yi Camera comes in two versions, the basic without the Self-pole stand and the Travel Edition which includes the Self-pole. Weighing only 72 grams, resembles the size of a matchbox . Looking almost similar to Go Pro Hero in terms of Weight and dimensions, Yi seems to be a vibrant colored GoPro.

Equipped with a global professional sports Ambarella A7LS image processor and 16MP Sony's back-illuminated image sensor, yi can capture clear bright and colorful images. 155 ° super wide-angle lens gives more powerful effects to support every play and creativity of action and sport at different speed modes.

Xiaomi yi camera offers four kinds of recording modes - hi-speed, speed, sport and daily mode, meeting the needs of different picture and video creation. MCTF powerful 3D noise reduction and motion compensated temporal filtering technology allows to take outstanding pictures under low light and bumps.

GeekPark compared the performance of Yi Camera with the rival GoPro Hero3 and Hero4 with recording parameters set at 1080P / 30FPS and using a single tripod, to simultaneously test the frame rate and video quality. In comparison,the video quality of GoPro Hero 4 Black, undoubtedly dominated the GoPro Hero3 and  Xiaomi Yi. Yi impressed with the image stability and the picture quality and surprisingly the picture and video quality is far better than Go Pro Hero 3. Overall, Yi video results seems to be pretty good, for the price of $64.

Coming to the picture quality, GeekPark compared the picture quality with Gopro 3 and Gopro 4 Camera's. See the result yourself, below. From Top to bottom, the first picture(picture on the left) is being captured under low-lighting conditions using Yi Camera and followed by GoPro 3 Black and GoPro 4 Black, in contrast, the picture on the right is captured under bright lighting conditions, following the order from top to bottom (Yi, Gopro3 and Gopro4)

Impressively, pictures taken with the yi sports action camera turned out very good. Relatively, GoPro 4 Black pictures are more realistic. GeekPeak also commented that GoPro 3 Black performance was not upto the mark when compared to Go Pro 4 and Yi, metering is not that satisfactory.

Concluding, Yi seems to be great camera for sports and action needs, for beginners professionals , importantly the selfie lovers. In the field of extreme sports, GoPro 4 still dominates, yi is definitely recommended to kick start capturing your sporting actions, i definitely mean mounting this to Syma X8C quadcopter to have a wonderful Ariela photo and videography

Quadcopters Yaw Roll and Pitch Defined

I would like to educate Quadcopter and Drone Flyers through this post , what exactly is Yaw, Roll and Pitch. Before Learning more about quadcopter's motion terminology (Yaw, Roll and Pitch), lets move on to know, something about Quadcopters and how it flies.

Quadcopter is derived from the word Quadrotor Helicopter. Very similar to a Helicopter, quadcopters uses four propellers and four motors which creates thrust and helps to elevate high , out of four motors with propellers attached, two motors rotates in clockwise(CW) and other two rotates in counter-clockwise(CCW). As you can see in the below picture, Motors 1 and 3 rotate in clock wise and motors 2 and 4 rotate in counter clock wise direction.

Defining Yaw, Pitch and Roll for Quadcopters

Having said that, the motion on the Quadcopter is controlled by three main things, the Yaw, Pitch and Roll along with Uplift and Downfall. These terms are definitely important to know before you start flying quadcopters, i say this because, Quadcopters are fun to fly if you know what exactly you are doing.

What is Yaw

Yaw is the deviation/Rotating the head of the quadcopter either to right or left, Yaw can be controlled through the throttle stick, also called rudder, making it to rotate either to the left or right. See the below animation to understand more.

What is Pitch

Pitch is the movement of quadcopter either forward and backward. Forward Pitch is achieved by pushing the aileron stick forward, which makes the quadcopter tilt and move forward, away from you.

Backward pitch is achieved by moving the aileron stick backwards(towards you), making the quadcopter, come closer to you.see the below animation to know more about the Pitch movement in quadcopter

What is Roll

Most people get confused with Roll and Yaw, Roll is making the quadcopter fly sidewards, either to left or right. Roll is controlled with the aileron stick, making it move left of right, if you move the aileron stick to the left, the quadcopter will fly left, if you move the aileron stick to right, the quadcopter will fly right.

What is Uplift and Downfall

Uplift is simply making the quadcopter fly high from the ground/sea level. the elevation can be controlled using the throttle stick , by pushing it forward, making the quadcopter fly high. Pushing the throttle down, makes the quadcopter come down to the ground which is called downfall.
